P&O Cruises Australia has announced a new expanded program of summer cruises from Western Australia on Pacific Sun, following a huge response to the ship’s inaugural 2009 season.
The new season, which goes on sale from March 27, will feature a record eight cruises from Fremantle between November 2010 and February 2011, including six voyages to Indonesia.
The 16-night Indonesian cruises will visit seven memorable ports including Christmas Island - one of P&O Cruises’ new ports, Semarang, Bali, Lombok and Komodo Island in Indonesia, Broome and Geraldton. Pacific Sun will also cruise by the HMAS Sydney site and the spectacular cliffs of Steep Point. Fares are available from $3259* per person, with the first departure scheduled for November 15, 2010.
Alternatively first-time cruisers have the chance to test the open waters on Pacific Sun’s three-night sampler cruises departing Fremantle on December 17, 2010 and January 21, 2011. Fares are available from $629* per person.
The new P&O Cruises’ program also features the debut of two new ships, Pacific Jewel and Pacific Pearl, which will begin cruising from Sydney in December 2009 and December 2010 respectively. Both ships will be based in Sydney year-round offering cruises to the South Pacific.
Meanwhile Pacific Dawn will be based year-round in Brisbane while Pacific Sun will also offer cruises from Auckland between April and June 2010, from Sydney in July and August 2010 and from the new home port of Newcastle in September and October 2010.
Announcing the new program, Jenny Lourey, Senior Vice President of Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises Australia, said it was testament to the growing demand for cruises among Australians.
"The decision to base Pacific Sun in Fremantle for a longer season follows the overwhelming popularity of the Indonesian itineraries scheduled for the 2009-2010 summer," Ms Lourey said.
"Demand for cruises in Western Australia has never been stronger because people want good value and relaxing holidays to exciting destinations – which is exactly what a cruise offers.
"With a record four ships to be based in Australia by December 2010, it’s clear interest in cruising is growing right across the country and we believe Western Australia will continue to play a key role in this growth," she said.
