Experience a ‘must do’ dive site that is awesome for novice to technical divers. A two-tank dive, reaching a maximum depth of 125 feet, explores the hulk of HMAS Perth, a guided missile destroyer scuttled after decommissioning to create a dive reef.
The 437-foot destroyer still retains one of her original gun mounts, built to the US Navy’s Adams-class destroyer design, the Perth enjoyed a distinguished 34-year career that included three deployments to Vietnam – she remains the only RAN ship to be hit by enemy fire in the last 50 years. Since her scuttling, Perth has provided a home for many species of fish and marine life, including sponges, mussels, oysters, scallops, cuttlefish and kingfish.
