Travel out from Burnie today through the stunning countryside to discover some of Tasmania’s best loved local delicacies. Enjoy morning tea at House of Anvers Chocolate a real chocolate taste sensation this beautiful property formally known as “Wyndarra Lodge” a stylish Californian bungalow house was built in 1931.
Walk around the expansive gardens and you will find within the old tree garden, trees from all over the world. Learn about cheese-making at Ashgrove Cheese the only cheese producer in Australia specialising in the production of English county styles of cheese such as Lancashire, Cheshire, Double Gloucester, Red Leicester and traditional style Cheddar. Here you will be offered a presentation on the cheese making process before watching the cheese being made. A large viewing window into the cheese making room allows visitors to watch the cheese being made in season between August and May. The cheese making display beside the window explains each stage of the process and another set of viewing windows shows you the cheese maturing rooms where rows of cheese are displayed. Detailed information on the process of cheese maturation and traditional cloth maturing of cheese is also displayed. There is also plenty of time available to enjoy a tasting of many of the cheeses and perhaps even to purchase some.
The next delicious stop is for lunch at The Cherry Shed. Every product sold in The Cherry Shed is produced and processed on site; products include fresh cherries, cherry ice-cream, port, liqueur, wines, jam, pickles, chutney, relish, sauces and much more. Afterwards join your coach and travel on to Brady’s Lookout (weather permitting) for views of Forth Valley before a scenic drive along the coast back to Burnie, a brief stop will be made at Campbell’s Look-out for an overview of Burnie & Emu Bay (weather permitting).
