The Legend of Old Tom - Eden's Killer Whale Trail

Eden's Killer Whale Trail is rich with whales and tales of adventure. Visit two of the most significant sites, uncover the dramatic history of whaling from 1828-1930 and the unique relationship between whalers and the wild killer whales (orcas). Visit the Eden Killer Whale Museum and discover the legend of Old Tom. In the 1920s and '30s Twofold Bay and the surrounding area were home to a group of killer whales led by a large whale known to locals as Tom. Next, visit the Seahorse Inn where the relationship between man and wild orca was first born on the white sands of Boydtown beach. The Thaua People performed rituals and dances to call and honour the killer whales their brothers or 'beowas'.
