Snorkelling the Wrecks

Moreton Island is home to one of Australia’s best snorkelling locations, 15 dramatic ship wrecks which are home to a large variety of tropical reef fish, brightly coloured coral and marine life. Your tour begins as you board a boat to travel out to the wrecks. These ships were scuttled by the Queensland Government between 1963 and 1984 to provide safe anchorage on the eastern side of Moreton Island for small watercraft. Coral has now formed in and around the wrecks forming an artificial reef. Dive in and explore this dramatic snorkelling site. You’ll see brightly coloured corals, come face to face with tropical reef fish (over 200 species of fish call the wrecks home!) and you might even spot a dolphin, wobbegong or dugong playing in the nearby water.
