Depart the pier and take a scenic drive from Port Chalmers, around the picturesque bays to the city of Dunedin. Upon arrival in Dunedin, a narrated city drive showcases what many consider to be the best-preserved Victorian city in the world. Soak up the grandeur of its architecture from the classical A.N.Z Bank to the buildings surrounding the Octagon, an eight-sided plaza that forms the core of Dunedin's lively business district. View the iconic Dunedin Railway station. A photo stop at the Octagon provides views of notable landmarks like the Town Hall, the Municipal Chambers and St. Paul's Cathedral; all watched over by the statue of poet, Robert Burns. A highlight of this tour is a visit to the newly refurbished Toitu Otago Settlers Museum. Enjoy a guided tour of the museum which traces the region's settlers – indigenous Maori, the early Chinese, and the following waves of migrant groups, including the Scottish settlers. Learn about their technological innovations, arts, fashion, domestic lives and transport. After touring the museum, you may choose to remain in the city and return to the ship later on the shuttle bus (nominal fee) or re-board your coach for the scenic drive back to your ship.
Great snaps of Dunedin to be captured so don’t forget your camera.
