You will be transported by coach to Lake Rotoiti (an approx. 45min drive from Tauranga). As we paddle onto the lake we will view beautiful expansive scenery & geothermal vents, paddle past classic Kiwi baches (holiday homes) and abundant birdlife towards the glow-worm cave. It’s a little known cave with a hidden entrance, about 20 metres deep, that we can kayak into. Once inside the cave we will view the glow-worms. After we exit the cave we paddle across to the Manupirua thermal hot pools. These are naturally thermal hot pools which are only accessible by water. Enjoy a well-earned break with a 30 min soak in the hot waters while taking in the breath-taking landscape of Rotoiti. The tour is fully guided, highly trained knowledgeable guides who tell you about the area, local Maori history and legends, and glow-worms. By nature, this is a soft-adventure activity; we suggest you adopt an adventurous perspective, and you’ll have a great time. You will stay warm and (probably) totally dry. The weather will not spoil your overall enjoyment of the tour – in fact the glow worms are at their brightest in damp conditions and the hot pools feel the best. We are confident that you will have a marvellous time regardless of weather.
Don’t forget your camera, underwater cameras can be purchased from the shops onboard your cruise ship
A classic kiwi packed lunch including a filled roll, biscuit, chocolate bar and bottle of water will be included.
No previous kayaking experience is required, but a good level of fitness & mobility is needed, as you will be paddling for 2 hours, sometimes in breezy conditions requiring sustained strenuous exertion. Due to these physical requirements this tour isn’t suitable for less physically capable guests. You will need swimwear & towel for the hot pools; a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and a change of clothes for after kayaking are also recommended. Shorts are the recommended attire for kayaking. No Jeans please.
Participants must be a minimum of 8 years old.
