Kiwifruit & Tauranga Sights

From Mount Maunganui cross the Tauranga Bridge to the historic Elms Mission House, the oldest home in Tauranga. It was built for Archdeacon Brown in 1847, who was the first Anglican missionary in the region. You will be guided through the Georgian styled home and spacious garden, which is characterized by a massive Oak & Chestnut tree and two towering Norfolk Pine trees, that were used as a navigation aid by early sailors. Then pass through downtown Tauranga and cross the Tauranga Harbour to Te Puke – the kiwifruit capital of the world – where a visit to an orchard and large processing plant will give you a chance to see and learn about the unique Kiwifruit. The workings of the orchard will be fully explained, while at the end of the tour you will be able to taste and sample the delicious fruit which either have a succulent green or yellow flesh, high in vitamin C. Return to the ship at Mount Maunganui, passing numerous orchards and farmland, before finishing with a magnificent drive along Marine Parade, overlooking Ocean Beach and Bay of Plenty.
