Parc Forestier - Cagou Encounter


Take a guided tour along the well-marked walkway through this peaceful sanctuary, (at an elevation of 548 feet). Stroll through the park’s 85 acres, including 5 acres of ponds and lakes and spot a huge variety of wild and domestic birds, like the roussette (fruit bat), notou, parakeets and cagou, a flightless bird, and symbol of New Caledonia. The cagou’s call is often mistaken for that of a barking dog.
