Enchanted Water Music Performance

Visit a traditional village that brings Vanuatu’s fascinating culture to life. Witness some of the most intriguing Pacific Island arts and customs including awe-inspiring water music, a warrior performance and the time-honoured tradition of a kava ceremony. On arrival to the village enjoy a refreshing coconut drink and watch a performance by the fierce village warriors. Up next, learn how one of the island’s most popular drinks is made during a kava ceremony. The highlight of the tour is sure to be the awe-inspiring Water Music Celebration. Dating back thousands of years and handed down from one generation to the next it’s believed that village women developed this unique form of musical expression as they washed and bathed at the water’s edge. During the performance, women in traditional costumes made from flowers, leaves and coconuts wade into a pool forming a semi-circle. Using their hands as instruments, they slap the surface of the water in a rhythmic motion. Accompanied by gentle chants and singing, the performers play a variety of melodies, each evoking the sounds of nature. It’s an amazing, one-of-a-kind cultural experience you’re sure to remember long after your holiday is over. Special Notes: To ensure your adventure is as enjoyable as possible, wear comfortable flat-soled shoes, clothing suited to the weather conditions, bring a hat, plenty of sunscreen and bottled water.
