Authentic PNG

Journey out of Alotau on a drive past coastal villages and enjoy a drive through the Hagita Oil Palm Estate. Pass through large hectares of Oil Palm Plantation and the nursery, as your guide explains the process of the oil extraction and the importance of this industry within the local community. Next, head out to Gabugabuna village for a taste of culture with local performances reflecting the different island and mainland cultures. Here the villagers can provide you with a look at harvesting and picking of palm oil bunches before you visit a small authentic PNG village where traditional methods of cooking, gardening, sago making etc. are on display. People here live on subsistence farming and this is evident when you view the gardens brimming with many varieties of home grown produce. On completion of the village encounter, head to the beachfront to look at the traditional war canoe loaded with men paddling ashore as if returning after warfare with the neighbouring enemy tribes. These canoes are built big and long to accommodate enough warriors when on the mission of war. They are a sight to behold on the water! Head back to town for the last stop at the Alotau War Memorial to learn a little of the war in Milne Bay and for a brief time souvenir shopping before heading back to the pier.
