Pacific Eden’s final voyage will depart on 16 March 2019 before being transferred to a new operator in early April 2019.
It’s more than a year to Pacific Eden’s departure — so please be assured we will make direct contact with any guests whose bookings are affected.
We will begin contacting any guests and travel agents booked on impacted Pacific Eden cruises from next week, with more details. So while we can’t give you all the answers right now, we will be in a position to offer a choice of excellent alternatives or a full refund should you be unable to find another cruise that suits you.
It may take us a little while to get in contact with everyone, but we will make contact with all impacted bookings by end of March 2018.
Finally, we also want you to know that we are currently working on Golden Princess’ itineraries and they will be on sale by the end of the year.
Questions and Answers
Q. I have a cruise booking for the period after Pacific Eden’s departure — what is going to happen to it?
A. P&O Cruises will be in contact in the coming weeks (before the end of March) with all guests and travel agents with bookings on impacted Pacific Eden cruises to make alternative arrangements, including their choice of:
• Moving your booking to the same or similar cruise itinerary on another P&O Cruises’ ship
• Cancelling your Pacific Eden booking for a full refund
Q. Will I receive any additional compensation because P&O has mucked up my plans with Pacific Eden’s sale?
A. . In some cases. For those that rebook the similar alternative P&O cruise and the departure date differs from the original Pacific Eden cruise, we will provide some additional Onboard Credit (Onboard spending money) for each guest. As there are so many different types of cruises, we will clarify this when we contact each individual guest.
Q. Pacific Eden only joined the P&O Cruises fleet in November 2015 — why is it being sold so soon?
A. Pacific Eden gave us opportunities to take our product in a new direction but it was time for the P&O Cruises’ fleet to be refreshed over time. This decision is a deliberate step to ensure P&O Cruises Australia has the right ships for a contemporary brand operating in a competitive market. It is also about preparing for the arrival of Golden Princess in 2020.
Q. Why was Pacific Eden chosen over the other ships to be sold?
A. We have said publically many times that the P&O Cruises Australia fleet will be refreshed over time. Pacific Eden is a beautifully designed and appointed ship and met the needs of the purchaser.
Q. What does the departure of Pacific Eden mean for the future of cruising from Cairns?
A. Cruising from Cairns has helped us to pioneer new destinations across PNG and the Solomon Islands. Although we are in the process of reviewing its viability as a homeport in 2019 and beyond, we remain committed to Cairns, and continue to grow transit calls there which have tripled over the past 5 years.
